Two Ohio college presidents are among dozens nationwide who are asking lawmakers to consider whether the legal drinking age should be lowered from 21.
"If you asked college presidents in America, probably at least 90 percent of us would say that raising the drinking age has not been a positive thing on our campuses," said S. Georgia Nugent, president of Kenyon College in Knox County. "Let's look at, in a sense, education rather than prohibition."
But Mothers Against Drunk Driving was sharply critical of the proposal, according to the Associated Press, claiming that lowering the drinking age would lead to more fatal traffic accidents and could compromise campus safety.
wow i honestly didnt expect this to be the angle they took on this issue lol
they want their students to stop getting arrested for underage drinking no doubt ;)
Sounds like a good idea to me. I've always said the drinking age needs to be either erased or lowered. All it does is keep cops away from handling important issues and make it more difficult for parents to guide their kids when they're introduced to alcohol thus making education on alcohol much more difficult.
